Computing in the Department of Archaeology

Equipment for loan

This document provides information about the availability of equipment for loan. You can always obtain the latest version of this document from: http://www.arch.cam.ac.uk/comp/ac139/.

Please note that requests for excavation equipment—shovels, mattocks, trowels, tapes, hand-tapes, line levels, dumpy levels, etc must be sent to Tonko Rajkovaca.

Introduction

The Department has a small number of pieces of equipment available for loan. This equipment may be booked by sending email to helpdesk@hsps.cam.ac.uk with a list of the equipment required, the date on which you wish to collect the equipment and the date on which you will return the equipment in working order. Please do not confuse these dates with the start and end dates of your project or fieldwork.

Equipment

Total stations

The Department has a number of Leica total stations—TCR805s and TS06s with mini, standard and 360° prisms. Leica FlexOffice or Leica GeoOffice can be provided on loan for download and management of your data.

Differential Geographical Positioning System equipment (DGPS)

The Department has a Leica differential GPS—System 1200 available for loan. Leica GeoOffice can be provided on load for post-processing anad management of your data.

Magnetometer

The Department has two magnetometers—Geoscan Research FM36 and Bartington Grad601 (dual sensor). Geoplot software can be provided on loan for download and management of your data.

Resitivity survey kit

The division has a Geoscan Research RM15 resistivity meter. Geoplot software can be provided on loan for download and management of your data.

Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera

The Department has Nikon D40 DSLRs available for loan.

Laser scanner

The Department has a terrestrial laser scanner—Leica C10. Leica Cyclone software can be provided on loan for download and management of your data.

Support

Should you require assitance using this equipment, a Computer Officer can be provided to accompany you on your fieldwork. You can book this in the same way as the equipment, by sending email to helpdesk@hsps.cam.ac.uk.
